Kayleigh's new school and conversation afterwards

We had Kayleigh's open house last night at her new school. We are very excited about her attending Quest this year. The principal spoke for a few minutes at the beginning to give a few updates. The biggest one was that they will not be able to serve hot lunch for the first 2-4 weeks of school, so everyone will be bringing lunch from home. They are still waiting for some of the serving equipment to be delivered.

Kayleigh's teacher seems great and exactly what she needs. We are sure that this year will be much better than last year. I was able to speak with her teacher without Kayleigh around for a few minutes to let her know some of our concerns about last year and this year. Her classroom even has a blog. They will not be posting pictures of the students, but they will have some pictures of the work they are doing in class. Once we go private at the end of the month I will post the school website again and also her classroom blog.

As you all know kids can say the funniest things. Last night after back to school night we had to take a friends son home on base and then have a very late dinner. The kids both had chicken tenders as usual. Right before Kayleigh took her first bite she looked at me and asked if her chicken tender was made from a real chicken and I said yes. She seemed to be fine about the answer and took a bite. After her next bite she asked if the chicken was still alive. Kris and I did great and did not laugh out loud, but it was very hard. I told her the chicken was dead. She seemd fine and took another bite. Her next question was "how did the chicken die?" Kris said it was processed. She took another bite then asked again, "but how did it die?" I said it was killed and we are not discussing it anymore at the table. I was very glad I was able to answer before Kris because he planned to tell her how it died. Thankfully that was the end of questions about the chicken tender.

  • Amy---I'm so glad you liked her teacher and the new school! That is SO important and I'm happy for you. That is so awesome about the blog....what a neat idea for the teacher to partake in!
I can't wait to be private as well....so I can be more specific about the schools they're at and stuff like that! And for my school too, lol! ;)

  • Well, it is great that Kayleigh is so inquisitive about her food and where it comes from... being from NC, and one of the largest poultry states in the nation, we play a big part in the chicken tenders of our nation... just think of the future questions you will have to answer!!!! Love, aunt lu

  • I'll comment per subject:
    * That's really good about you having a good feeling about the teacher!! That is really important...

    * As for the lunch, try the Foogos, they keep the lunch hot for several hours!

    * As for the blog, they can make it private, so they can post pictures.... As part of my job in the school were I work, Im creating the blogs for each classroom, and Im making them private... Only three emails are allowed per family, and not even the parents from other classroom will have access to the classroom where they dont have kids... This is how I suggest it because it will be awesome to be able to see pictures and videos... True that my friends wont be able to see it, but I will post in my personal blog things that are only about my own daughter...

    * And Im cracking up about the chicken!!!! Now Im sorry for the chicken I had today for lunch (NOT)... LOL
